Johnson-Su Biocompost

In New Mexico, we are working with a coalition of 25 tribal, rural, youth-serving, farming, educational, and conservation partners to integrate Johnson-Su composting and healthy soil principles into land stewardship, food production, and ecological education. Partners range from Indigenous agriculture departments, youth programs, seed farms, and conservation nonprofits to farmers’ market networks and community food initiatives. Together, these organizations are installing bioreactors, distributing compost inoculant, and applying biological soil amendments across farms, school greenhouses, food forests, and community gardens. This work is grounded in two years of field trials showing statistically significant improvements in plant growth, root development, crop yields, and soil microbial activity when using Johnson-Su compost-based inoculants on New Mexico soils.
