Santa Fe Orchards (2021)

For two seasons we’ve mobilized our volunteer network on a vision that was sitting for many years. To harvest, eat, preserve, and donate fruit from the bounty of the many fruit trees that dot Santa Fe County. Modeling community building through gratitude in action for the abundance of food that grows around us but often falls to the ground unused. This is a "tree-to-table" program where we harvest our neighborhoods and bring the fruit to our Community Meals and Community Garden Days. Any remaining harvest is donated to local charity organizations.  This project quickly evolved to include supporting local farmers with pulling in final harvests before the first frosts of Autumn kill plants, vegetables and fruits in the field.

In two years we’ve diverted 1000’s of pounds of food to peoples plates instead of falling frozen to the ground, still leaving plenty to decompose, feed the microbes and build soil.
